History of MPOM
Medical Professionals on a Mission Inc. (MPOM) is a registered 501(c)(3) health focused relief organization, established in December 2017. The organization was founded by three Dominicans residing in the United States. Ms. Shanita Scotland RN, CLNC who had been involved in providing Disaster Relief after tropical Storm Ericka in 2015. Nurse Scotland was also co-founder and coordinator of two successful Medical Mission trips to Dominica in September and October of 2017. Dr. Anne-Marie Johnrose-Brown, had been part of the initial Medical Mission trip to Dominica in September 2017 and Ms. Corinne Francis, a Healthcare Executive at CHRISTUS Health with 20 years’ experience, who was instrumental in securing medicines and medical supplies from CHRISTUS to support the two medical missions to Dominica.
The aforementioned missions underscored the need for, i. the intervention of medical professionals from outside the Region to provide post disaster medical support, and ii. an organized structure to timely and coordinately provide various health related support to the Caribbean region.
MPOM is premised on the need to meet the specialized healthcare and humanitarian needs of Caribbean Islands, particularly post natural and man-made disasters. Additionally, the organization proposes to address deficiencies within numerous Caribbean health sectors/systems by facilitating access to advanced healthcare and specialized treatment where appropriately available, via the provision of financial and logistical aid to critical patients needing these treatments.
